Biog:

Hi

I am Greg ‘Franco’ Francis and Old Anniesland has been my life!! I’ve been at OA since I was born – my father played for Glasgow High, as it was then, and then GHK and my mother was one of the legendary GHK Lunch Ladies serving alongside mothers of other OA greats, such as Cammy Little, Muz & Feg Wallace and Big Watty to name a few.

All the greats that have happened at OA over the last three decades – you name it, I’ve probably see it!! I was a ball-boy when Scotland ‘A’ played New Zealand ‘A’ at OA in 1993 and again the following year in 1994 when the Springboks played a Scottish Districts Select. I manned the old score board with team mate and best friend Stephen ‘Chippy’ O’Donnell when the first ever Glasgow Hawks team beat Toulouse at OA in 1998.
I have fond memories playing and training on, the then, ‘Pitch 2’ before the Astroturf pitch replaced it and in Hawks first year when we had massive speakers at the top of the old stand blaring out tunes whenever we scored.

1999 was when I started playing senior rugby at OA and Hawks and played against some true Scottish legends before they retired; Craig Chambers when he went back to Melrose, Big Alan Watt when he played at Currie (and completely trampled me to near death, twice, on the New Anniesland pitch) and George Graham and Doddie Weir when Hawks went down to Newcastle for a preseason game against their ‘development’ side.

I’ve enjoyed being part of every Murrayfield Cup (and Shield) outing, bar the first, that Hawks have played in, winning three times (cup twice and shield once) and losing out twice, as well as been involved in the triple league wins following on from the infamous South Africa 2001 Tour.

And now……….still enjoying every minute of Anniesland Rugby!!

Cheers

‘Mon the Hawks!!
