MEDIA RELEASE FROM SCOTTISH RUGBY: Seven changes to Scotland U19 development squad
For immediate release: Monday 18 August 2014
Issued on behalf of Scottish Rugby
Head coach Eddie Pollock today named seven changes to the initial national under-19 development side selected to face Romania in two matches in Bucharest.
The games follow what was considered a hugely beneficial under-19 fixture against Australia Schools last November, and have been arranged to help bridge the gap between the U18 FIRA-AER European Championships and the beginning of the international under-20 programme that starts next month.
The squad had two training sessions at BT Murrayfield Stadium earlier this month and will spend a week in Bucharest from today (Monday 18 August).
Scotland under-20 head coach Sean Lineen will also travel as team manager to cast an eye over the young players coming under his stewardship after the summer.
Pollock, said: "This is a new extension to the under-18 programme.
"This camp will help to extend the focus for the players' training. It will help new players enter the programme and assist others in their continuation into the under-20 programme, and get them in the best possible condition to return to, or join, a club and compete for a place in the first team.”
The squad replacements include forwards Lyall Archer (Glasgow Hawks), Fraser Christie (Stewart's Melville), Cameron Fenton (Heriot's/Glasgow Warriors), Nick Gray (Ilkeston) and Chris Jollands (Dundee High); and backs Angus Rennie (Stewart's Melville) and Duncan Swanson (Currie).
