Premier Round-up – Week 3

Hawick pulled off what was widely seen as the surprise of the day when they defeated Ayr by appoint at Millbrae. The Greens had been cruising but had to cling on after a late surge by their hosts. Former Hawk, Craig Gossman, Will Bordill supplied the scores which came close to saving the day.
However, Ayr’s defence of the Bill McLaren Shield was short lived and the trophy now makes it’s way to Mansfield Park. A derby match with gala next Saturday will be Hawick’s first chance to defend it.
Heriots have now won two in a row bouncing back from their opening day defeat to Hawks at Goldenacre. Heriots struggled with an expansive game in the first half against Stirling County but a move to “route 1” straight through the middle rugby after the interval saw them smash the Bridgehaugh side, running out with a convincing 42 – 19 win at Goldenacre
Edinburgh Accies miserable start to the season continued asa they lost emphatically at Malleny Park. The Raeburn Place side were on the scoreboard first but this only served to rile the men from Balerno. Joe reynold was on top form for Currie as he scored two tries, five conversions and a penalty as Currie won 38-19.
Boroughmuir left the Greenyards’ support silent as the Borderers suffered a rare home defeat to the recently promoted Edinburgh side. Edinburgh Rugby professional, Carl Bezuidenhout, scoring 17 of Muir’s 31 points. The South African scored a try, 4 conversions and penalty as Muir took a try bonus beating Melrose 31-26. Melrose visit old Anniesland next Saturday.
