Alex Gordon fondly remembered

Glasgow Hawks’ President Stephen Winter has paid tribute to the contribution Alex Gordon made at the club in recent years after he passed away last week aged 51.

Alex served as the Press Officer with the BT Premiership club for several years and before that covered their matches for newspapers and travelled with the first XV to away game since 1997.

In recent years Alex faced several health challenges and met them with great courage and humour.

Winter said: “The thoughts of everybody at Hawks are with his family and friends at this very sad time.

“Alex was a really great guy and he got to know everyone at the club – from the youngest to the oldest members – because he was so keen to promote Hawks in a good light.

“I shared many a trip with Alex to away matches when he would talk about rugby in great detail for many an hour because he cared so much about the sport and the inclusive aspect of the sport, a game for all shapes and sizes and all backgrounds.

“He was a very generous man and would always ask after you and your family and like all good commentators and writers of the game wrote with great impartiality seeing the good in other teams’ play.

“We will all miss him greatly, he was part of the Hawks family.”
