Cummings and Smith on scoresheet

Scotland 24 England 6

SCRUM magazine reports

Scotland under-20s got their RBS 6 Nations campaign off to the best possible start as they defeated England at Broadwood Stadium on Friday night.

The 24-6 victory was the Scots first ever over England since this age-grade level began in 2007.

The young Scots were superb from start to finish against their shell-shocked opponents.

The likes of Murray McCallum, Jake Kerr and Hugh Fraser really impressed as the home side took the match to the visitors.

Joe Simmonds gave England the lead through a penalty early on, but Edinburgh Rugby starlet Blair Kinghorn then showed why he is so highly rated by many when he scored a cracking try.

Adam Hastings missed the conversion, but they were 5-3 up.

Three minutes before the break England took a 6-5 lead with a second Simmonds penalty.

However, Scotland scored their second try soon after. It came from Heriot’s McCallum and Kinghorn converted to make it 12-6 at half-time.

In the 56th minute Scotland skipper Scott Cummings then went over to make it 17-6 and when Matt Smith scored a few minutes later – with Kinghorn converting – they were 24-6 up and in dream land.

In the last 20 minutes the English really came at Scotland, but the home defence was immense and there was no way through as the hosts secured a famous victory.
