180 Primary7 Children from 5 local primary schools enjoyed a break in the dismal weather to get out and enjoy a terrific morning of Rugby at Scotstoun

On Friday the 20th November Glasgow Hawks Development team Gary Strain (DO) and Josh Miller (MA) ran a touch rugby festival at Scotstoun stadium for P7’s at all the St Thomas Aquinas feeder Primary schools. The children currently attend St Clare’s, St Brendan’s, Corpus Christi, St Paul’s or St Patrick's Primary and in total over 180 kids attended and played rugby.

Every pupil played at least 6 games of Rugby, as well as playing other fun games and rugby themed activities. This meant that everyone was kept active for the full morning. All the kids particularly enjoyed the wrestling games because the contact element was a step closer to the real thing from touch rugby.

Half way through the festival the children were introduced to members of staff from St Thomas Aquinas including; deputy head teacher Mrs Wilson, head of PE Mr McMahon and the head of the schools of Rugby, Hawks own Mr Finlay Gillies. All three gave a short speech about the secondary school, the school of rugby programme and Glasgow Hawks rugby club.

The 5 schools that attended the festival really enjoyed the experience because they could play other schools and they could use what they learned in school and put it into practice on the pitch.

Friday's festival along with the work done in the build up should greatly benefit St Thomas Aquinas' school of rugby program and Glasgow Hawks Rugby Club over the coming years.

A big thanks must also go to the city development team, without whom this event could not have taken place.
