Scottish prop Steven Findlay, who was on Glasgow Warriors books for part of 2015/16, is now in Australia playing for Eastern Suburbs.

Over the last few years, Findlay has been one of the most consistent performer for Glasgow Hawks and that earned him a chance in the pro ranks.

Now he is embracing another new challenge on the other side of the world and is loving it so far.

The former Dalziel front-rower said: “I had always fancied a stint playing abroad, but was in full-time employment in the Govan shipyard for 12 years so didn’t have the opportunity to do so until I was made redundant last May.

“Fortunately, the week after I lost my job I joined Glasgow Warriors, initially as World Cup cover and then I got kept on until the end of the 6 Nations.

“I knew there was a chance I wouldn’t be kept on beyond the end of my contract so I started putting the feelers out.

“I had a rugby highlights video posted on YouTube and the Head Coach of Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club Darren Coleman contacted me by email asking me to come and play for his club in the Shute Shield.

“Darren coached alongside Matt Taylor, the Glasgow and Scotland Defence Coach, a few years back so I spoke to the coaches at Glasgow and they spoke very highly of the club and the standard of rugby.

“There are a few ex-Hawks players connected with Easts so that has made the move a lot easier as well.

“I have enjoyed my first few weeks here. The club season here finishes in early August and following that there is a new competition that has been running for two years called the NRC.

“I am hoping to play well enough to progress into that competition.”
