Whatever the result there is a return match

J.M. Bishop capped for Scotland 1893

This Friday as we gather in the shadow of Remembrance Weekend a great old rugby rivalry will be played out yet again when GHK host Glasgow Accies under the lights of Old Anniesland
This rivalry has played out since the 1880s and has endured two World Wars
The matches have been played on pitches across the west end of the Second City
Pitches at Jennings Track ,Scotstoun Showgrounds ,Balgray ,Old and New Anniesland have all been used
The club rivalries were mirrored and still are by the school rivalries between High School of Glasgow ,Glasgow Academy and Kelvinside Academy
The rivalry since 1983 has taken the form of Accies v GHK following the amalgamation of Kelvinside Accies with Glasgow High but that has never reduced the passion or bragging rights of the fixture
The fixture has been a moveable feast over the 130 years so when the owner of the Cap pictured captained Glasgow Accies the Accies home ground was Old Anniesland I know that to be true because he was my grandfather

Whatever happens on Friday and whoever triumphs in this Glasgow Derby there will be a return match
For the record the last Accies v Glasgow HSFP match before the outbreak of WW1 was a win for Accies on 7th March.1914 by , 8 points to nil. Scorers-T Stout, G.Ure Reid ; G. L. MacEwan kicked one goal.
Tommy Stout the try scorer was killed in action at Gallipoli a year later

There was no return match in 1914

KO at Old Anniesland in Friday is 7.30 pm
