Cummings in squad

Glasgow Warriors went down 19-12 to a strong Canada side in Halifax this afternoon.Canada 19-12 Warriors

The Warriors went ahead early on in what was their final pre-season game before the GUINNESS PRO12 season gets underway on Saturday.

Glasgow opened the scoring when outside centre Glenn Bryce crossed but 11 minutes later second-row Cudmore went over for Canada. Nathan Hirayama's successful conversion pushed the home side 7-5 ahead.

Powerful back Hearn doubled Canada's tally with a converted score just before the half-hour mark and when Glasgow fly-half Rory Clegg was yellow-carded before the break, the hosts were in the ascendency.

The second period saw Glasgow launch a great deal of pressure on the Canadian line but solid defence, typified by Ospreys winger Jeff Hassler's try-saving tackle, kept the PRO12 champions out.

In hot conditions in Halifax, Nova Scotia, water breaks were being taken and following the 60-minute fluids Glasgow continued their assault on Canada's try-line, with home second-row Evan Olmstead being yellow-carded in the process.

Canada 19-12 WarriorsNine minutes from time the Warriors managed to close the margin to two points when replacement Junior Bulumakau scored in the corner but seven minutes later up stepped former Warriors star DTH van der Merwe to seal a vital victory for Canada.

Following the game the Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said he was pleased with aspects of the performance but admitted they had work to do ahead of the Scarlets match on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to glasgowwarriors.org, he said: "We've got to make sure we put what we've learned from the two defeats in Clermont and Canada into a winning performance on Saturday.

"We were disappointed with aspects of our accuracy and the players and coaches will need to work hard to improve that.

"I was pleased with a lot of individual displays, especially in the second-half when young guys were coming off the bench.

"We're crossing our fingers that there as many players as possible in the Scotland squad next week because we know they'll be better players for the experience and it's great for our club.

"What the last couple of weeks has proved to me is that we have a real depth to our squad. There are players who are learning their trade and are working really hard to deliver performances and there is still work to do.

"The whole season is ten months long and we know we'll work really hard this week to first select the right team who are going to put us in a position to win the game, but also get those things out that we want to see in our team."
