The BT Premiership battle is set to continue at full throttle tomorrow (Saturday 6 December) in round 12 of the top-flight division.
Scotland 7s' Lewis Young will play for Gala tomorrowStirling County have the potential to move into the top four if they are able to come away with more league points than Gala, but equally Gala will be looking to re-establish themselves at the submit of the division. Both currently have 29 points.
Stirling County are at home to Heriot’s at Bridgehaugh, while Gala travel to Old Anniesland where they’ll meet Glasgow Hawks, both matches kick-off at 3pm.
Stirling County Head Coach, Graeme Young, said: “Although we were not at our peak last weekend we were very pleased with the overall performance from the squad.
“There was a little bit of rust from the autumn international window, but we improved as the game went on and despite coming back in the second-half we were pipped by a well drilled Melrose team that took their opportunities.
“Heriot’s are flying high this season. Phil has his squad performing well and we certainly felt the brunt of that in the second-half of our first round fixture where Heriot’s made life very difficult for us (42-19).
Our young squad continues to grow and develop and we’re pleased with the level of effort, desire and application in training.
“Everyone is looking forward to another challenging match on tomorrow where we will continue to benchmark our progress against the top four sides.”
Edinburgh Accies and Currie open the day’s fixtures, being the only teams to kick-off at the earlier time of 2pm.
The remaining two ties will be played between Hawick and Ayr at Mansfield Park and Boroughmuir and Melrose at Meggetland.
Chris Dean, Alex Toolis (both Edinburgh Accies), James Downey, Mike Cusack (both Currie) Fraser Lyle (Stirling County), Jamie Ritchie (Heriot’s), Jack Cuthbert, Joaquin Dominguez (both Hawick), Tom Brown (Boroughmuir), Sean Kennedy (Melrose), Gregor Young, Lewis Young and Fraser McKenzie (Gala) are the professional players that are released to clubs tomorrow.
Also, on Sunday (7 December) Murrayfield Wanderers will meet Kirkcaldy in the final weekend of the women’s BT Premier League at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy, kick-off 3pm.
Murrayfield Wanderers have already, mathematically achieved the title, but following Sunday’s match will be rewarded with their trophy.
