Letter from the President Ed Cozier

FAO ALL SCOTTISH RUGBY UNION FULL MEMBER AND ASSOCIATE CLUBS
Dear Club Secretary,
Election for the Position of Vice President
As you may be aware, we are now approaching that time of year when nominations are sought for the position of Vice President of the Scottish Rugby Union.
The Vice-Presidential candidate elected at this year’s AGM will, subject to the approval of the member clubs at the 2018 AGM, also be elected to serve as the Union’s President for 2018/19 and 2019/20.
The SRU Secretary will contact you shortly with regard to the election process, but I wanted to write to you personally as your President to draw your attention to the nomination process and to the importance of this election, especially given that both the President and Vice President will now serve for two years in office.
If someone from your club or region, or a person well known to you in the rugby community, wishes to stand for the position, he/she must be proposed and seconded by two Full Member clubs, and have their nomination supported by a further ten Full Member clubs. The letters of nomination/seconding must be on the club headed paper and be sent, together with the additional letters of support, to the SRU Secretary at BT Murrayfield no later than 31 May 2016. A CV of not more than 350 words outlining the candidate’s reasons for standing should also be enclosed with the application.
A full role description is available on the SRU website. However, the key elements are to be a good communicator with broad knowledge of all facets of the game in Scotland, underpinned by substantial experience of the game and preferably service on a Club and/or SRU committee. An understanding of corporate governance is desirable as the President serves on the Scottish Rugby Board and Chairs the Scottish Rugby Council.
Please feel free to encourage suitable individuals to stand. I can’t emphasise too much that now, more than ever, we need well-qualified, bona fide and respected candidates to represent our Union, both nationally and internationally.
From my point of view being President has been a life-changing experience, which I'll go into in greater detail in future correspondence and in my AGM address. If you require any further clarification on the role and remit, please feel free to contact myself directly by mail at BT Murrayfield or by email at President@sru.org.uk.
Can I also ask you to please post a copy of this letter on your club noticeboard?
Yours in rugby and sport. Kind Regards
Edward A Crozier
