26th August 2017 - HAWICK 22, GLASGOW HAWKS 29
The Greens welcomed Glasgow Hawks to Mansfield Park on a sunny Saturday for the last pre season friendly before the BT Premiership kicks off on Saturday.

The coaches of both sides used bigger squads and it was beneficial for the Greens to get a look at a lot of the new faces at the club.

The visitors started with a bang when their stand off Ross Thomson scored after three minutes easily converted by the same player. The Greens lively left winger, Lewis Ferguson, showed exceptional speed and skill to score a lovely try after 25 minutes. The home side were unfortunate to give away a try in injury time of the first half when lock Andy Linton scored for Hawks.

It was the visitors who extended their lead at the start of the second half when the experienced scrum half, Paddy Boyer, scored in the corner. However, the Greens hit back again when Ferguson scored his second try after good work from Lee Armstrong.

The home team introduced Gary Munro, previously at Jed-Forest and a BT Academy Stage 3 player, who did well to score from close range. Full back, Ali Weir, landed the conversion to level the scores at 17 17 with 25 minutes left.

Both sides were trying to play rugby and Hawks went ahead when, after good pressure, hooker Grant Stewart, did a nice side step to score under the posts with Jack Steel converting. Hawks scrum half Boyer got on the score sheet again to make it 29 17.

In typical fashion, the Greens attacked again and the useful Munro darted over for his second try to close off the scoring at 22 29.

All in all a good exercise for both sides prior to next weekend league campaign starting.
